IRS announces 2026 Tax Professional Awareness Week for the 2027 filing season
The IRS says its October 19 week will provide tax professionals with webinars, videos, tax tips and tools focused on accurate returns, due diligence and taxpayer information protection.
The IRS announced Tax Professional Awareness Week for the week of October 19, 2026, in a news release dated October 16, 2026. The agency said the program is intended to help tax professionals prepare for the 2027 filing season, support accurate tax return preparation and protect taxpayer information.
During the week, the IRS plans to promote instructional videos, webinars and tax tips. Featured content is expected to include an October 21 webinar titled “How Much Do You Know About Refundable Credits,” featuring IRS subject matter experts. The IRS will also highlight Taxpayer Advocate Service resources available to tax professionals.
Other instructional videos will address accurate completion of Form 8867, the Paid Preparer’s Due Diligence Checklist; common Schedule C reporting errors; and educational tools and resources available on IRS.gov. The announcement also points to Tax Pro Account and other services available to tax professionals.
Additional topics listed by the IRS include due diligence, identity theft prevention, cybersecurity, payment modernization, Automatic Exemption from Penalty, Saver’s Match, Trump Accounts and other filing season priorities.
Tax professionals are encouraged to visit the Tax Professional Awareness Week page on IRS.gov for resource details, registration information for the October 21 webinar and other educational materials. The release says the IRS will make additional resources available on IRS.gov throughout the year.
IRS Chief Executive Officer Frank J. Bisignano said tax professionals play an important role in the agency’s mission by educating taxpayers about compliance and helping them claim tax benefits to which they are entitled. For individuals who use paid preparers, the announcement indicates that preparer-focused education will cover refundable credits, due diligence, reporting accuracy and protection of taxpayer information.
